Testing, testing. Is this thing on? Are we—oh we’re live?! Ahem. We interrupt your regularly scheduled programming to bring you this special broadcast, live from Jubilation.

Hi there listeners! I’m Dorian Blackwood, the cross-collaboration partner of Free for All Media and the mind behind Midnight in Jubilation. With only a little over two days left of Pocketopia 2026, we thought it would be a great opportunity to stop by each other’s campaign pages and tell you a little bit more about our projects. We’ve already seen how much they’ve resonated with you, and for that we are so grateful. It’s fantastic to know that there are so many folks who share our love for narrative-rich, solo-ready games! It was also an exciting opportunity for me to provide descriptions for two Jubilation and night-time inspired Spirit Cards for My Very Own Forest Spirit, as part of our cross-collaboration.

But what is Midnight in Jubilation? Its not only a solo journalling game, it’s the culmination of my terrifying encounter with the film Pontypool many years ago, as well as my love of horror stories and weird fiction. At its core, it’s about flawed people facing a dark and uncertain world. One where you’re only ever a call away from discovering you’re not the one in control, and perhaps never were. In it, you play as the newest overnight radio presenter of Jubilation, a town that can’t seem to decide when or where it should be.

Midnight in Jubilation is presented in A5 format, with digital, softcover, and hardcover pledge options. All digital documents are compatible with screen readers, and have already been checked by both a sensitivity reader and an accessibility consultant. Very excitingly, we have recently unlocked even more content for the game, where backers will get to name someone on Mwaki’s Missing Persons List in the Appendix. But I am giving thought as to how even more flavour can be added to enhance its use in play.

So why not stop by and see what Jubilation has in store for you? For today’s song recommendation I’d like to leave you with Night Mail by Public Service Broadcasting.

And remember, you’ve been listening to Jubilation Radio. We are here and so are you.

$7k stretch goal has been surpassed. Now for the final leg of our journey!
2 months ago – Mon, May 25, 2026 at 01:55:22 PM

Hello to all spirit friends,

It is with great gratitude that we announce that our $7,000 stretch goal has been left happily in the distance behind us.

The final few days of the campaign are upon us, and as such we've placed two new stretch goals, a spot on the horizon to aim for. Specifically, these unlock rules for playing with Spirits based on emotions (called Passions), and rules for Spirits based on celestial concepts like stars and planets (called Supernals).

In the interim, our layout artist has been busily zhuzhing book to make it as beautiful as possible. It is going to be a bit of eye candy, in addition to a balm for your spirit (no pun intended).

We will likely post at least one more update in the coming days, but that one will be in the proper spirit (that one was intended) of the event and focus on collaboration and friendship.

Thank you, thank you, thank you,
Justin

Hello Spirit Friends!

Very excited to announce that we are on the cusp of our current stretch goal, which will give everyone five new pre-generated Spirits to play with in the Spirit Card deck. The mid-campaign slump has set in but we're still making progress, and deeply excited and grateful for your support and companionship.

Happy trails!

My most profound game ever (report)
2 months ago – Wed, May 13, 2026 at 12:37:09 PM

Hello all!

I'm so grateful to all of you for supporting this game. I am very proud of all of my games, but this one holds a special place in my heart. Following is a recounting of my most profound playtest of the game. I hope you enjoy:

MY VERY OWN FOREST SPIRIT PLAYTEST REPORT
Chapter One: Reflect
I made my first Offering (Reflect) and began my Outing. Early on I was struck by the swaying greenery beside the path, and the movement of the many silver leaves which flowed along it, ushered by the wind. Dozens of birds flew across around me as I walked or lighted near me, many of which Pangaraya played with. Coupled together, I considered this a Sync as these phenomena gave the beginning of my Outing a charged, otherworldly quality. Also, given that my Offering was Reflect, it seemed appropriate that there was so much beauty to imagine Pangaraya playing with. SYNC
Bloom: 2 + Reflect (Seed of Joy- +1 Bloom for each closed Chapter including this one)

Chapter Two: Appreciate
I was already so moved that I chose Appreciate as my Offering. Strategically, I knew it would seal my Bloom, and if I synced, I’d get two Bloom each Chapter after this which would guarantee the area's Sphere would raise. This was the most calm of the Chapters, but I saw a hawk flying overhead in search of prey, and immediately imagined Panga flying up to play with it which struck me as comical and in line with her personality, so I considered it a SYNC. All Bloom gains are sealed.
Bloom: 1 (Seed of Joy), Sealed.

Chapter Three: Cleanse
I looked around for some trash to see if I could take the Cleanse Offering, and there were a couple crushed beer cans. So I picked them up. I forgot to bring a bag so I carried them in my hands. Two paths diverged and I chose the one that lengthened my journey. I resolved to look for more trash as did Pangaraya but she got distracted, and I eventually found another crushed beer can which caused a SYNC, but that was barely the beginning. I made my way down a steep hillside, and knew the end of my chapter would be a circle cut into the grass by ATV’s doing donuts. As I made my way down I saw a huge pile of trash, which strengthened the SYNC for me. I resolved to try and find something to pack some trash out in, and was lucky to find a bucket, which I filled – mostly old DVDs, computer cords, and water bottles – and discovered as I looked around that there was a memorial marker with plastic flowers, commemorating someone’s death. Had I not already Synced, this would have caused one given that one of Pangaraya’s aspects is Flowers.
Bloom: 2 (Seed of Joy, Appreciate), Triple Bloom next Offering.

Chapter Four: Feel
I picked up a bit more trash, and made my way to the end of Chapter Three where – just as I decided to take the Feel Offering – I saw ahead of me the skeletal carcass of a donkey, lying in the near distance. As I began the Offering, I was overwhelmed with grief at the memorial marker and the dead donkey. I felt sorrow for death and its injustice and I tried to summon all my love for the donkey, for humanity, and for everything around me. It felt profound to be there, in that valley surrounded by trash and death, trying to beam my meager love out to everything. I was overwhelmed. Next, I began the most tiring part of the hike, up and out of the valley. Pangaraya didn’t fly, but only shrunk to sit on my head and nuzzle my hair to comfort me. About two thirds of the way up and out of the valley, I heard a Donkey braying repeatedly in the distance. Though a SYNC wasn’t foremost on my mind, I couldn’t help but recognize that this was one.
Bloom: 15 (Seed of Joy, Appreciate, Synced Feel = 5, tripled))

Chapter Five: Commune
The end of chapter one was at an old destroyed structure made of stone brick with beautiful sage and lichen growing therein. It could have been a sync on its own if I didn’t already know it was there. I chose to make the Commune Offering, which involves imagining a spirit near where you make the Offering, and discovering things about it. I couldn’t help but keep calling to mind the lichen, so I chose to Commune with the lichen spirit. It was quiet and spoke softly in many voices. I got the sense of it being many things but also one. That it moved slowly, but that every piece of lichen on the hill was possessed of the same spirit, and that though it was small and slow, it could devour rock in its time and so it was strong. I decided the structure with its beautiful plants was a spirit site, and was grateful to the spirit and moved on. On the last leg of my journey, I felt very calm and settled. Though I felt mindful, I was no longer concerned with Syncs or winning the game but was just calmly enjoying the last few steps, when I saw all across the hillside, boulders covered with lichen.
Bloom: 2 (Seed of Joy, Appreciate, Synced Commune)

Until next time,
Justin

A Stretch Goal a day keeps the doctor away
3 months ago – Mon, May 11, 2026 at 02:07:28 PM

We're blown away to have hit a new stretch goal every day so far! We also sold out of all of our Spirit Family tier pledge levels.

You have unlocked new expansion content for the game, and are close to unlocking five new Spirit Cards to be included in every Spirit Card deck. Simu is really having to stretch his little belly to keep up!

New parts of the game you have unlocked will need art, and as such we've opened up two new pledge levels for those who wish to be a patron of the arts, and leave their mark on the Spirit World forever.

  • Spirit Extended Family works like Spirit Family, with your likeness featured, except it will be included in the expansion content.
  • Spirit Ambassador allows you to include your very own forest spirit as one of the Spirits to be featured in the Spirit Card deck, so you can immortalize your imaginary friend!

We're genuinely so grateful for your support and for making this event so joyous to be a part of. Thank you truly.
